Chris Brown is a domestic violence graduate but is he a better man?
Chris Brown finished his year-long domestic violence course and celebrated by tweeting a picture of his certificate for his fans to see. He tweeted, “I’m done with class…I have enough self respect and decency to be proud of accomplishing this DV class. Boys run from mistakes…men learn from them!!”
So are we proud?
Unless you were living under a rock last year, you know about the infamous Grammy night beatdown Chris Brown put on pop singer Rihanna. The pop star endured a tough year of vicious scrutiny and even having his album, “Mechanical Dummy” blacklisted from family friendly stores such as Walmart. Brown was sentenced to take a once-a-week year-long course, 180 days of community service, five years of probation and issued a stay-away order from Rihanna.
The whole Chris Brown-Rihanna fiasco has been a touchy topic. People were not sure whether the singer could ever truly be forgiven for his actions. He apologized over and over to both fans and Rihanna. He has followed his probation and now completed this class.
Is it enough?
A man should never hit a woman no matter how upset he gets. But Brown has learned his lesson, acknowledged his mistakes and is ready to move onto the next phase in his life. The fact that he would tweet his accomplishment shows that he has grown in this last year and maybe even become a better man. (Or it could be another plea for forgiveness.)
He has a lot of fans, young males and females alike, and him owning up to his faults and doing all he can to correct them is a good example for our children to see. The sad thing is that no matter how far he goes in his career, this drama will always hang over his head.
The judge who oversaw the case, Patricia Schnegg, did give praise to Brown for his accomplishment. "Of all probationers I've ever had, and I've had thousands of probationers, no one has ever done a better or more consistent job than you have," she told Brown last month. "And I really want to commend you for taking responsibility, and for actually working diligently to complete all of the things the court has required of you."
