WHO Guillermo del Toro
THE MOVIE "Day of the Dead"
THE DEAL The writer-director of "Pan's Labyrinth" and "Hellboy" is set to produce this computer-animated film with the visual-effects studio Reel FX (the animated "Open Season" sequels), according to reports. It's not a remake of George Romero's 1985 zombie film; the working title refers to the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead, which serves as a backdrop to a Romeo-and-Juliet romance. The director and co-writer is Jorge R. Gutierrez, whose credits for Nickelodeon include the cartoon series "El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera."
THE MOVIE "Re:Generation Music Project"
THE DEAL This Grammy-approved film about electronic music comes from an unlikely documentarian, Amir Bar-Lev ("The Tillman Story"), and focuses on some unusual collaborations: The Crystal Method and Martha Reeves; Mark Ronson with Erykah Badu and Trombone Shorty; Skrillex working with members of The Doors; and outdoor-festival favorite Pretty Lights with country darling LeAnn Rimes.
INFO Thursday at AMC Roosevelt Field 8, Garden City; Clearview's Squire Cinemas, Great Neck; and AMC Stony Brook 17. Showtimes and ticket prices may vary. Visit regenerationmusicproject.com.
THE MOVIE "2012"
THE DEAL Worried that Roland Emmerich's vision of the apocalypse could still come true? Kevin Manning, a Bellport-based astrophysicist and consultant (his former clients include Brookhaven National Laboratory), may put your fears to rest when he hosts a local screening of this improbable but highly entertaining disaster flick. It's part of Science on Film, a series of movies accompanied by authoritative guests that continues through May.
INFO 7 p.m. Wednesday, Cinema Arts Centre, 423 Park Ave., Huntington; $13; 800-838-3006, cinemaartscentre.org.
