Welcome to the Backstage Pass year-end countdown. Happy holidays! This week, we'll be counting down the best albums of 2010 and next week we'll tackle the singles.
20. Erykah Badu, “New AmErykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh” (Control Freaq/Universal Motown): Probably the clearest view of “Baduism” in years – wild creativity unspooling over laid-back neo-soul grooves.
19. Allo Darlin', “Allo Darlin'” (Fortuna Pop!): A reminder that twee is not a dirty word and “extraordinarily cute” is a compliment.
18. Big Boi, "Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty" (Def Jam): The Dirty South rises again! Big Boi channels his inventiveness into non-stop hip-hop partying.
17. Macy Gray, “The Sellout” (Concord): Probably the most underrated record of the year, “The Sellout” is overflowing with shoulda-been hits and gonna-be classics, as Macy Gray unleashes her wit and unique style again.
16. Envy on the Coast, “Lowcountry” (Photo Finish): Sadly, Envy's swan song is filled with untapped potential and radio-friendly possibilities including "Head First in the River" and "The Great American T-shirt Racket."
