Linkin Park’s excellent “A Thousand Suns” (Machine Shop/Warner Bros.) takes No. 1 on next week’s Billboard album chart, squeaking past Trey Songz’s “Passion, Pain & Pleasure.”

“A Thousand Suns,” led by the single “The Catalyst” sold 241,000 copies last week, according to Nielsen SoundScan, while Songz – who will appear at Hofstra’s 75th wildly eclectic anniversary party Saturday with Public Enemy, Sha Na Na, Fountains of Wayne and others – moved 240,000 copies.

Eminem’s “Recovery” slipped to No. 3, while debuts from Jamey Johnson (“The Guitar Song” at No. 4) and Robert Plant (“Band of Joy” at No. 5) round out the Top 5. Weezer’s “Hurley” debuted at No. 6 and Brandon Flowers’ “Flamingo” came in at No. 8, while last week’s No. 1 Sara Bareilles’ “Kaleidoscope Heart” slipped all the way to No. 12.
