Citing personal reasons, pop star Justin Bieber has canceled his scheduled appearances on CBS' "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" Tuesday night and the network's Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday.
"My apologies to @colbertlateshow as I won't be able to make it to nyc tomorrow for the show," Bieber, 21, tweeted late Monday night. He had been scheduled to give a musical performance on the episode, which featured filmmaker Spike Lee and singer-memoirist Carly Simon as guests. "I look forward to making it up to you soon."
Immediately afterward, in a posting no longer visible on his Twitter account, the "Sorry" singer wrote to host Colbert's own Twitter account, "Thank you for the understanding . . . I will see u soon. Thank you."
Colbert, 51, replied to Bieber's tweet Tuesday night, acknowledging the singer's apology and wishing the "Where Are U Now" singer a happy Thanksgiving holiday.
Additionally, reported "Entertainment Tonight," the singer canceled the taping of his Thanksgiving Day Parade performance. It had been scheduled to shoot Tuesday evening after his "Late Show" taping. "ET" said the singer withdrew for undisclosed personal reasons, and that he is still set to perform on the ABC special "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve."
A CBS spokeswoman said the network had no comment, and to refer back to Bieber's Twitter messages.
Bieber's new album, "Purpose," has been streamed 77 million times in the United States and 205 million times globally on Spotify, said Forbes, setting one-week records for that music service. The Canadian singer performed on Sunday night's "American Music Awards" in Los Angeles.
