 HOT SONG

The Red Hot Chili Peppers' new single, "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie" (Warner Bros.), has a whole lot of cowbell (!) and a rhythm track that's closer to INXS' "Mediate" than anything the one-time p-funk all-stars did in the same period. It's unexpected -- perhaps owing to new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer -- but it still totally works. "Maggie" isn't quite as ambitious as the band's "Stadium Arcadium" stuff; it simply pairs a nice Flea bass groove with another fun Anthony Kiedis story. -- Glenn Gamboa
