The annual Emmys telecast, which has pretty much existed as a Sunday night staple since the dawn of time -- or at least since 1976 --  will move to Monday this August.

NBC just announced:

"The 66th Primetime Emmys® are scheduled for Monday, Aug. 25, 2014 live coast-to-coast (8-11 p.m. ET / 5-8 p.m. PT) from the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles...."

No reason was given, but in the TV trade, when no reason is given, one need look no further than that old and trusty maxim, "Follow the money." In this instance, NBC clearly determined that preempting an NFL game on Sunday night was financially unfeasible. Of course, what's interesting with a Monday telecast is that many people in Los Angeles are still at work from 5 to 8 p.m.
