Long Island restaurants offering free food to those in need amid coronavirus pandemic

During these trying times, restaurateurs are working hard to keep afloat. But restaurants know many of you are suffering, too. Which is why some are offering free food to those in need.
Smoked Barn (2932 Hempstead Tpke., Levittown): At this barbecue joint, customers will receive a free entree, plus soup or salad from its lunch menu (available from noon to 3 p.m.). Entrees include Peruvian fried chicken, arroz chaufa, rotisserie chicken, pulled pork sandwiches and brisket sandwiches. The restaurant selects the meal, so call ahead and let the staff know you’re in need. Smoked Barn is currently operating Wednesdays to Saturdays from noon to 10 p.m. and on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. It’s offering takeout, free delivery and curbside pickup. American Beech Restaurant (300 Main St., Greenport): American Beech Restaurant and social services organization, CAST (Community Action Southold Town), have teamed up to prepare nearly 300 hot meals, including turkey, roasted vegetables and rice, that will be distributed to those in need. Grab a meal every Monday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the restaurant’s outdoor patio area. American Beech is otherwise closed until May 6. More info: 631-477-5939, americanbeech.com
Gino’s (214 Portion Rd., Ronkonkoma): Mondays through Thursdays Gino’s is offering a free slice to children 12 and under. Valid from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. only. Otherwise, Gino’s is operating daily, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. More info: 631-588-9874, ginospizzeria.com
Angelina's (29 Hillside Ave., Williston Park): Angelina's is giving away one regular pie per family that's in need. Free delivery and curbside pickup daily, during the week from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on weekends from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. More info: 516-248-8200, angelinasofwillistonpark.com
Chubs Burgers Burritos & Heroes (625 Horseblock Rd., Farmingville): Here, all kids can get a grilled cheese, ham and cheese or bologna and cheese sandwich, plus an ice tea, lemonade or water at no cost. And, there’s even crumb cake, too. This sandwich shop is currently offering free delivery, takeout and curbside pickup daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sundays until 3 p.m. More info: 631-880-7999, chubsbbh.com
Salvatore’s of Elmont (312 Meacham Ave, Elmont): Families get free pizza dough (makes an 18-inch pie) and kids in elementary or high school get a regular slice, plus a fountain soda or water for free. Salvatore’s is currently open Sundays to Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. It’s taking orders for takeout, free delivery and curbside pickup. Cherry Valley (831 W. Beech St., Long Beach): Until school reopens, free daily lunch is available at this sandwich shop between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to children — nursery school through 12th grade. Kids can choose between a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or grilled cheese, which comes with a bag of chips and ice tea or lemonade. Otherwise, it's currently serving weekdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and weekends from 11 a.m. to at least 10 p.m. Cherry Valley is open for takeout, free delivery and curbside pickup.
