Korean fried chicken continues its Long Island takeover with a spiffy new spot across the street from Roosevelt Field mall. Flushing-based chain Mad For Chicken has opened its fourth Long Island outpost, in Carle Place. It joins eateries in Plainview, East Meadow and Rockville Centre. A fifth location has also opened in Selden.
The brand has gone into the space that once housed the beloved Southern restaurant LL Dent. It now sports the signature Mad For Chicken look, which straddles the line between sports bar and Korean pub. It is also right down the street from one of Nassau's top Korean barbecue spots, Won KBBQ, making that stretch of Old Country Road a destination for Korean food and sushi, too.
The Carle Place eatery is one of the few Mad For Chickens with a menu that's halal. (The restaurant on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow is another, although both offer beer and soju.)
Manager Josh Lee, who has worked at multiple Mad For Chicken spots, says this one has been getting busier and busier since opening in January. The menu at Carle Place has some fusion items, such as kimchi quesadillas, as well as fried chicken and bulgogi sandwiches. But the go-to order here is a plate of five wings with french fries for $11.95. Spicy soy garlic is their signature flavor, but there are nearly a dozen to choose from.
Mad For Chicken, 221 Old Country Rd., Carle Place, 516-303-1496, madforchicken.com. Open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.
