A stretch of road dotted with Turkish pide, Mexican lengua tacos and Portuguese rotisserie chicken can now count needlefish sushi among the culinary pickins’.

Sams’s Sushi Bistro has replaced Szechuan Garden on Horseblock Road in Farmingville, and chef-owner Sam Chen (along with co-chef Adam Zheng) are serving some hard-to-find sushi — such as live scallop and shima-aji, or Japanese striped jack — alongside hand rolls, appetizers and pan-Asian dishes such as ginger sauce-filled dumplings and lobster Rangoon.

Some of the kitchen’s seafood, such as toro, arrives from Japan via a Japanese distributor, said manager Amanda Lin, but local Blue Point oysters are also on the menu.

The space has two bars — one for sushi, another for drinks — among its 79 seats, and is serving beer, wine and sake, with a full liquor license on the horizon.

In addition to sashimi and nigiri sushi ($2 to $6 per piece), noodles, udon, katsu, yaki and teriyaki, more fusion-y dishes include kimchee soup ($4), seafood ceviche with yuzu sauce ($15), and filet mignon teriyaki ($26).

More than 40 specialty rolls include a crunchy Farmingville roll filled with lobster, cucumber, avocado, eel sauce, mayo and wasabi green beans ($15).

Sam’s Sushi Bistro is open daily for lunch and dinner, starting at 11:30 a.m. Monday to Friday, 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
