Bay Shore School District technology questionnaire
These are the replies from some districts to the Newsday questionnaire regarding the use of new technologies in their classrooms.
Some of the answers are elaborate, and have not been edited or reduced. Some districts did not answer the questions directly.
In Bay Shore, the district reported the following:
* Smart Boards: Interactive white boards - the “simplicity” of a white board and the power of a computer. Almost every elementary classroom now has a Smart Board installed for teacher/student use. Teachers integrate curriculum with text, video, animations, internet access as part of their daily lesson plans. The Middle School and H.S. have Smart Boards in select classrooms as well as in computer labs.
* Student Response System: In conjunction with the Smart Board, a SRS is being used in two elementary buildings. The SRS is an interactive response system combining handheld wireless remote for each student in the class that allows real-time assessment of the students in a group setting.
* ScholarChip: A student smartcard ID system that can be best described as EZ-Pass for students. Students check in each day when entering the building by taping their ID on a card reader located at kiosks strategically placed throughout the building. Students entering the cafeteria also tap in to validate that they are supposed to be in lunch that period. This system can also be used with wireless hand-helds for admittance to various school functions, dances, and activities.
