Bethpage School District technology questionnaire
These are the replies from some districts to the Newsday questionnaire regarding the use of new technologies in their classrooms.
Some of the answers are elaborate, and have not been edited or reduced. Some districts did not answer the questions directly.
1. Please list any major technological innovations introduced in the classroom in the past three years. Please give the name and list the use for each item.
We have installed SmartBoards in all secondary classrooms, in all disciplines with a great deal of staff development. We have laptop carts in all our schools for use in all disciplines. I think you attended one of our 21st Century Scholars' programs. That is an initiative to get students to challenge themselves in different areas including technology. It is an electronic portfolio based on the work of the Partnership for 21st Century Skills. We have expanded that this year to students in grades 4 and 5 (we previously used it in the high school and middle school). Oyster Bay has joined us in adopting the program.
2. Please tell us of any major innovations you are planning to introduce within the next year.
We are using SmartTables in some Special Education classes. We have worked with Cengage Publishing on the design of an electronic textbook for AP History. We are experimenting with iPads with our Senior Seminar Class.
3. Are teachers or students using cellphones in the district for instructional purposes?
No.
