These are the replies from some districts to the Newsday questionnaire regarding the use of new technologies in their classrooms.

Some of the answers are elaborate, and have not been edited or reduced. Some districts did not answer the questions directly.

1. Please list any major technological innovations introduced in the classroom in the past three years. Please give the name and list the use for each item.

During the past three years we have extended our one to one laptop initiative to all students in grades 4, 5 & 6. We have also installed interactive white boards and enhanced audio systems in all classrooms from PreK - Grade 6. They are also utilized in our Computer Lab, Library Media Center and all related arts teaching stations.

2. Please tell us of any major innovations you are planning to introduce within the next year.

Within the next year we hope to introduce ipads to all teaching staff and then have a set available for student use in the classroom.

Quogue school officials reported the use of SmartBoards and Promethean Boards, an interactive education board with a hands-on approach for our Pre K - 6 grade students. This tool provides children a different approach to learning their core subject matter. It's essential to break up today's lessons with technology and books. Technology and books co-exist, so it is important to show the children how to balance and appreciate them both.

In the future, the administration and the teachers are very interested in obtaining iPads. Being a school that has always used the Apple platform, this is an exciting time to swap out a heavier laptop for an iPad --- to do the same functions and more!
