These are the replies from some districts to the Newsday questionnaire regarding the use of new technologies in their classrooms.

Some of the answers are elaborate, and have not been edited or reduced. Some districts did not answer the questions directly.

1. Please list any major technological innovations introduced in the classroom in the past three years. Please give the name and list the use for each item.

Valley Stream District Twenty Four's Technology Plan details the recommended approach to implementation so as to meet the goals of our District as well as having our students achieve the National Standards. The School District is taking the necessary steps to develop a more effective and sophisticated computer culture for the students by utilizing state-of-the-art technology and providing training for the staff in order to restructure the learning environment.

Class lessons focus on curriculum and continue reflecting technology integration by use of SMARTboards, SMART Tables, SMART Response Systems (Senteos), Airliners, and Fiber Optic Internet Access for research.

All students in each grade will continue to interact with a variety of museums, institutions and experts using videoconferencing equipment.

All grades will have access to a portable lab with a minimum of 27 notebooks accompanied by a Computer Aide and/or a Technology Teacher. In addition to enhance the NexGen Report Card Program to increase staff productivity. To implement ease and use of the new Internet based student data system for the district. Finally updating classroom -learning stations consisting of two computers/laptops, Bedford worktable, internet access, and network printers for grade 5, 6, and library media centers.

2. Please tell us of any major innovations you are planning to introduce within the next year.

Support and maintain 15 notebook computers and iPads that are stored in the Bretford carts in each Library Media Center. Continue to provide Smart Table with training for grade one district wide. Acquire and maintain one Smart Table for grade one throughout district. To update and purchase Bluetooth Airliners and Smart Response systems for each 5th and 6th grade classroom.

3. Are teachers or students using cellphones in the district for instructional purposes?
