Suffolk police were investigating the shooting of a man at a Yaphank house that was also set on fire Tuesday night.

Police said the man was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. He was in surgery and police had not yet interviewed him Tuesday night.

Sixth Squad detectives and Arson Section detectives were investigating the shooting at the ranch-style home on Long Island Avenue between Sills Road and Yaphank Avenue, where, firefighters said, two rooms were damaged by fire.

Yaphank Fire Chief Chris Austin said the fire was confined to the front of the home and was extinguished within 25 minutes of the 5:33 p.m. call.

Two dogs were also shot. One succumbed to his injuries while the other was taken to a shelter.

Police said there were no arrests and could not comment on a possible motive for the shooting.
