Health briefs: Lost love's return
Contrary to fairytale-like depictions in movies and books, reuniting with a former romantic partner is unlikely to make you happy, a new study shows. "Cyclical" relationships are quite common, said study author Amber Vennum of Kansas State University. These couples were generally more impulsive than noncyclical couples about major relationship decisions, such as moving in together, buying a pet or having a child. As a result, cyclical couples tended to be less satisfied with their partner, had worse communication, lower self-esteem and were less certain about their future.
Leg hair today, on the head tomorrow?
Doctors may have a leg up on baldness: Transplanting hair from a patient's legs to his head for what may be a more natural look.
In the February issue of the Archives of Dermatology, Dr. Sanusi Umar explained that the finer, softer hair found on the leg is an ideal candidate for hair grafts that aim to re-create the hairline. "The whole idea is to take hair transplantation to the next level," said Umar, a clinical instructor in dermatology at the University of California, Los Angeles.
