Health Tip: Keep Kids Safe in Shopping Carts
Shopping cart accidents are a major cause of injuries among young children.
The University of Michigan Medical System offers suggestions to help prevent these injuries:
- Only allow children to ride in the seat, buckled in. Children should not ride elsewhere in the cart.
- Never allow an infant to be strapped into a car seat on top of a shopping cart.
- Placing a child seat on top of a shopping cart increases the risk of tipping.
- Instead of using a shopping cart, carry an infant in a baby sling or carrier, or shop with baby in a stroller.
