Suffolk officials find no basis for claim of mouse leg in latte
The Suffolk County Department of Health Services said it has found no evidence of rodents at a Lindenhurst Dunkin’ Donuts shop where a woman said she found a mouse leg in her son’s iced caramel latte.
Joanne Delgado, 49, of Lindenhurst, said she purchased lattes on Thursday from the Dunkin’ Donuts at 41 Sunrise Hwy. at about 7 p.m. for herself and her son, Matthew, 12.
A spokeswoman for Dunkin’ Brands Group Inc. said the shop closed that night after Delgado returned with her claim and said an operations manager was sent to inspect the store upon learning of her Facebook post on this subject, which has since gone viral.
“After looking into the matter and having the restaurant thoroughly inspected, we have found there is no basis for the allegation,” the spokeswoman said in an email.
The Suffolk County Department of Health Services said they inspected the Dunkin’ Donuts on Monday and found “no evidence of rodent activity,” a spokeswoman said.
Delgado said the discovery was made on the drive home, when her son told her his drink “tasted funny.” Delgado said when he finished his medium latte, he found “something small and dark” at the bottom of his cup.
She fished it out and “immediately knew” it was a mouse leg.
“I was shaking because I was so revolted,” Delgado said.
Delgado returned to the store to speak with the manager about 8 p.m., demanding they close until they determined if they have a pest issue.
The manager offered Delgado a $25 gift card and showed her the area where the drink was prepared, which she said appeared “fairly clean.”
Later that night, Delgado took a picture of the limb and shared it on her Facebook page. As of Wednesday evening, the post has been shared more than 1,200 times.
The shop’s manager declined to comment about the incident.
“I wouldn’t do this to destroy a business,” Delgado said. “I just want to make sure people are aware.”
