The National Weather Service briefly issued a tornado warning Sunday for the southern areas of Nassau County, Queens and Brooklyn.

The warning, meaning a tornado has been sighted or is imminent, was issued shortly before 4 a.m. and expired at 4:15 a.m. without any reported tornadoes, meteorologist Ashley Sears of the weather service office in Upton said.

Sears said the warning was issued after forecasters spotted conditions capable of forming a tornado southeast of Lido Beach and south of Massapequa.

A tornado watch, which raises the possibility of a tornado forming, remained in effect for Suffolk until 11 a.m.
