At the end of “Stumping in swing states” [News, Oct. 28], it was reported that, Donald Trump drew laughter when he said his positions on trade were so much better than Hillary Clinton’s that there shouldn’t even be a vote on Nov. 8. “We should just cancel the election and just give it to Trump, right?” the candidate said.

This should have been the headline, because Trump has been making remarks like this that frighten me and many others. They include assertions that the election is rigged, or his urging supporters to monitor polling places, and pledging to open up libel laws so he can sue the news media for negative stories.

All of these statements and claims are anti-democracy and dovetail with the policies of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
