A tiny home in Farmingville is on the market for $349,900. The taxes are $3,248.

These taxes are unusual for the area, said listing agent David Oakley, of Realty Connect USA.

"The average taxes are probably at least $8,000 to $9,000, minimum," for the hamlet, he said.

The home on Rexmere Avenue, which is a dead-end street, features one bedroom and one bathroom. It spans 456 square feet. The original structure was built in the 1930s, Oakley said.

"It's a big piece of property," the agent said. "It's level, it's fenced and there's a new deck in the back."

The ranch sits on a 0.23-acre lot. The siding, windows and roof were all updated in 2020, and there is also a new oil tank. The property is in the Sachem Central School District.

There have been plenty of potential buyers at the showings so far, but Oakley admitted, "it's a one-bedroom, so that's a limited market."

Several tiny homes (or houses totaling 500 square feet or less) hit the Long Island market in March, including properties in Huntington and Selden.

"It's the type of house for somebody that doesn't want to rent and doesn't want the condo scene," Oakley said.
