Lindsay Lohan was under investigation Wednesday concerning allegations that she stole a $2,500 necklace from a Venice, Calif., jewelry store.
Los Angeles County district attorney spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons said police turned over the results of their investigation Wednesday afternoon, The Associated Press reported, but that prosecutors would not make an immediate decision on charges.
Last week, the owner of a store TMZ.com identified as Kamofie & Company gave police surveillance video of Lohan wearing the one-of-a-kind necklace on the day it went missing. RadarOnline.com later reported that the video shows Lohan taking the necklace from the store.
A search warrant was issued Tuesday for Lohan's home, but by Tuesday evening, before a search, the necklace was returned to the LAPD's Pacific Detective Division.
In a video posted by RadarOnline.com, division commander Lt. Jeff Bert called the crime "a grand theft because the item in question is valued at over $900," and noted, "Because it's a felony crime, we don't need a victim's cooperation to say [to the prosecutor] go ahead and press charges."
Lohan, 24, reportedly said the necklace was loaned to her and a stylist forgot to return it on time, according to TMZ.com, which said the stylist was the person who brought it to the LAPD.
Shawn Chapman Holley, Lohan's attorney, did not return phone and e-mail messages from the AP. The actress remains on probation following court-ordered inpatient rehab treatment, which Lohan completed Jan. 3. Police in the theft probe "certainly contacted probation as a matter of course," Bert said.
