Website report: Gibson made racist rants against his ex
As attorneys for Mel Gibson and his former girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, the mother of their 8-month-old daughter, Lucia, faced off against each other in a child-custody hearing in Los Angeles Thursday, reports swirled of audio recordings allegedly capturing Gibson's racist, vitriolic rants at his ex.
While a baby screams in the background, the male voice calls Grigorieva a series of extremely hostile names and regresses into racist obscenities, according to RadarOnline.com. The site, which said unnamed persons there "heard the tapes," did not respond to a request for how it ascertained that the voice belong to Gibson.
Newsday was unable to verify whether the voice was that of Gibson or of an impersonator.
The question is relevant given the highly charged allegations of physical and emotional abuse Grigorieva, 40, says the 54-year-old actor-filmmaker has leveled at her, and the blanket denials from his camp.
Calls and e-mails made Thursday to Gibson's publicist, Alan Nierob, and to one of Gibson's attorneys, Tom Hansen, were not returned. An assistant to Gibson's agent, Ed Limato, referred calls to Gibson's publicist. Voice mails left at two listed telephone numbers for Grigorieva also were not returned.
A representative for Gibson told People magazine, "I have no comment on, and furthermore no knowledge of, the credibility or authenticity of any alleged audiotapes." The magazine said Grigorieva's attorneys declined to discuss the reports.
Thursday afternoon, attorneys for the two parties met in a closed session with a judge handling their child custody case, The Associated Press reports. Neither Gibson nor Grigorieva were present for the hearing, which the judge closed to the public.
According to TMZ.com, the judge sought to identify the source of the leaked tapes, and prohibited Grigorieva from releasing the tapes or any information on them.
Gibson and Grigorieva, a Russian singer, met on the set of his 2010 film "Edge of Darkness," dated for about a year but had broken up by April.
The acrimonious split resulted in mutual restraining orders being filed last week.
