Jordan Smith, who won Season 9 of “The Voice” and went on to become that singing competition’s highest-selling artist, has become engaged to his girlfriend, Kristen Denny.

“RINGING in the new year with my future wife!,” the 22-year-old Kentuckian posted New Year’s Day on social media, captioning a selfie of the two of them at the Boston Public Garden, with Denny displaying her engagement ring. “She said YES! #Mr&MrsSmith.”

Denny simultaneously posted the same image on Twitter and Instagram, writing, “2016... You’re definitely my favorite! #engaged #Mr&MrsSmith.” The next day she posted a close-up image of her hands and the ring, captioned, “Wow! Yesterday was absolute perfection! Thanks for all the well wishes and sweet messages! I am so incredibly blessed and I can’t wait to marry my best friend!”

Those well-wishers included five-time Emmy Award-nominee Henry Winkler, who tweeted to Smith on Saturday, “Long live the Smiths.”

Smith and fellow Kentuckian Denny have been in a relationship for three years. She is a speech language pathologist for the Bell County, Kentucky, Board of Education, and had studied communication sciences and disorders at Eastern Kentucky University. Smith, whose Facebook page is under Jordan MacKenzie, using his middle name, has been a teacher’s assistant at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee, where he has been studying music business.

Saturday night, Smith sang the national anthem before the University of Kentucky vs. University of Mississippi basketball game at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky. “Tonight was so much fun!!” Denny wrote on social media, posting a photo of the two of them on the court, wearing UK’s colors.

Smith, who was on coach Adam Levine’s team, has his Season 9 “Voice” songs currently on iTunes, and told Entertainment Weekly last month that he plans to have new material available “pretty early” this year. “I’m very, very adamant about getting my music out there as quickly as possible and the label is with me in that effort,” he said.
