The Roosevelt Union Free School District and Alumni Association held a public event honoring Ray Wilson, legendary basketball coach of the Roosevelt High School Rough Riders during the 1960s on Saturday, April 26, 2014. A special presentation was given by NBA Hall of Famer and Roosevelt High School alumnus Julius "Dr. J" Erving, who starred in Wilson's school team, the Rough Riders, in 1968. The school dedicated a piece of hardwood from the center court of its original gym to Wilson during the ceremony.
