Top 100 boys lacrosse players for 2023

Newsday takes its annual look at the top Long Island high school boys golfers heading into the spring season, listed in alphabetical order. 
 Joseph Dolezal, Wheatley, Jr. 
 Dolezal shot a 9-over par 153 to tie for 25th at the state championships last year. 
 Jack Estrella, Friends Academy, Jr. 
 Estrella placed third with a 3-over par 145 at the Nassau individual tournament and went on to help Friends Academy win the county and Long Island team titles. At the state championships, he&nbsp;shot a 14-over par 158 to tie for 42nd. 
 James Fabrikant, Port Washington, Sr. 
 Fabrikant consistently led his team in match scores and carded an average score of 38.2 last season. 
 Alex Gore, Manhasset, Jr. 
 Gore shot a 12-over par 156 to tie for 36th at the state championships. 
 Bryce Karty, Port Washington, So. 
 Karty shot a 16-over par 160 to tie for 47th&nbsp;at the state championships as a freshman. 
 Michael McConie, Chaminade, Sr. 
 McConie won the CHSAA state title&nbsp;last year after he had back-to-back birdies on the final two holes to finish 1-under par 71. McConie also won every match last season leading up to the NSCHSAA individual championship where he finished tied for second.

 Dean Muratore, St. Anthony’s, Jr. 
 Muratore tied for second (3-over par 75) with teammate Mike McConie at the NSCHSAA individual championship last year and was the runner-up in 2021. He placed second at last year’s CHSAA state tournament with a 1-over par 72 and tied for third place at the Federation tournament with a 5-over par 76. 
 Sean Shallat, Friends Academy, Jr. 
 Shallat shot a 13-over par 84 on Bethpage Black to help Friends Academy win a Long Island championship team title last season. He was also a member of last year’s state team where he tied for 29th. 
 Drew Tonon, St. Anthony’s, Sr. 
 Tonon had a 2.38 over par scoring average last season. He is a three-year starter on the Friars’ lineup and went 9-2-1 in his first two seasons. The strength of his game is his power and accuracy off the tee, according to St. Anthony’s coach Chris Koepplin. 
 Bryan Zhao, Jericho, So. 
 Zhao tied for 47th with Karty at the state championship&nbsp;last year after shooting a 16-over par 160.&nbsp;

Top 10 boys golfers for spring

Newsday's annual look at the top gymnasts in Nassau heading into the 2022-23 winter season, listed in alphabetical order. 
<h3> Catherine Brew, Oceanside, So. </h3> 
 The Oceanside standout tied for 30th on floor (8.500) at the state championship last year. &nbsp; 
<h3> Leah Chin, Syosset, So. </h3> 
 At the state championships, she finished 13th in the All-Around&nbsp;(35.450) and tied for 10th on the uneven bars (9.000). Chin also&nbsp;placed fourth in the All-Around (35.150) at the Nassau Team Championships last February and tied for first on floor (9.400). 
<h3> Teresa Jennings, Hicksville, Sr. </h3> 
 She was seventh in the All-Around (3125) and placed sixth on uneven bars (8.325), seventh on vault (8.500) and tied for eighth on floor (9.000) at the Nassau Team Championships.&nbsp; 
<h3> Kirsten Lilly, Long Beach, Jr. </h3> 
 She placed 13th in the All-Around (33.350), finishing in the top 15 on floor (725), beam (8.700), vault (8.000), and the uneven bars (7.925) at the Nassau Team Championships. 
<h3> Jessica Misita, Massapequa, So. </h3> 
 She finished sixth in the All-Around (34.475) at the Nassau Team Championships. She placed second on the uneven bars (8.7), fifth on vault (8.650) and tied for eighth on floor (9.000). 
<h3> Lyla Murphy, Massapequa, 8th grade </h3> 
 As a seventh-grader, Murphy placed 32nd on beam (000) at the state championships. She finished eighth in the All-Around (34.100) at the Nassau Team Championships, finishing in the top 10 on beam (9.000), vault (8.400) and the uneven bars (8.150).&nbsp;

 At the Nassau Team Championships last winter, she tied for second on vault (9.000), tied for third on floor (9.250) and placed fifth on beam (9.075). 
<h3> Alyssa Sanborn, Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK, Sr. </h3> 
 She tied for 17th on vault&nbsp;(8.950) and tied for 18th on floor (8.950) at the state championships last March. Sanborn placed third on floor (9.250) and sixth on vault (8.600) at the Nassau Team Championships. 
<h3> Marissa Schlossman, Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK, So. </h3> 
 She placed 10th in the All-Around (33.900) at the Nassau Team Championships. Schlossman was first on the uneven bars (8.950) and fifth on vault (8.650).&nbsp;

A look at the top badminton players across Long Island as the spring season approaches, listed in alphabetical order. 
 TOP 10&nbsp;GIRLS ON LONG ISLAND 
 Carrie&nbsp;Davis, Miller Place, Soph. 
 Davis utilizes a tiring flurry of attacks, forcing her opponent to move across the entire court during a single rally. She&nbsp;will compete at a high level again this season in first singles. 
 Allyson Lam, Great Neck North, Jr. 
 Lam earned both All-Conference and All-County honors last season after finishing with a 10-0 record. She is quick on her feet with power smashes, and will be a force, likely in first singles. 
 Judy Liang, Jericho, Fr. 
 Liang went&nbsp;8-2 and was a Nassau singles runner-up in her first year with Jericho in 2022. Her knack for combining a finesse game with a power game, makes her a tough read for opponents. 
 Devyn Novikoff, Half Hollow Hills, Sr. 
 Novikoff had a strong campaign last season going 12-4. Her tenacity makes her tough to beat. 
 Ashley Park, Commack, Sr. 
 Park enters the season set to defend her 2022 Suffolk singles title. She had a 14-2 record last season, and her strategic play and ability to cover the court creates challenges for her opponents. 
 Kirsten Tam,&nbsp;Great Neck North, Sr. 
 After finishing in the top four at the Nassau singles championships, and going 10-0 in the regular season, Tam has her eyes set on a higher finish in 2023. She's graceful on the court and possesses an exceptional drop shot. 
 Samantha Tom, Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK, Sr. 
 Tom could do no wrong last season, going 12-0 in second singles and earning All-Conference honors. 
 Bernice Wong, Great Neck South, Jr. 
 Wong went 15-0 last year in doubles play and won the Nassau doubles title. Wong may transition to singles play this season, but her communication skills still make her a prime doubles player. 
 Victoria Wroblewski, Commack, Jr. 
 Wroblewski played double singles last season with a flawless record. Her mental toughness makes her a fierce competitor for any opponent. 
 Kayla Wu,&nbsp;Great Neck South, Jr. 
 Wu is physically gifted and highly skilled, which helped her cruise to the Nassau singles title last year with a 10-0 record. She will compete in first singles again this season. 
 TOP 10 BOYS IN SUFFOLK 
 Joon Choi, Commack, Sr. 
 Choi is coming off a Suffolk doubles championship title and will either try to repeat his success in doubles this season or transition to singles. He boasts tremendous power on his smashes in conjunction with a soft touch at the net. 
 Kyle Fehling, Miller Place, Sr. 
 Fehling was a pivotal part of a strong doubles team last year, but will look to make a transition to singles this season. His wealth of experience is valuable on and off the court for Miller Place. 
 Ben Felber, Smithtown East, Jr. 
 Felber earned All-Conference doubles honors last year,&nbsp;but may be competing as a singles player this season. He went 12-5, utilizing his quick hands to keep his opponents off-balance with his shot placement. 
 Rajveer Gujral,&nbsp;Half Hollow Hills, Soph. 
 Gujral has been a two-time county singles runner-up to his older brother, who graduated last year. The top county singles spot appears to be Gujral’s to lose. His court awareness and ability to make in-game corrections helped lead to a 25-2 record last season. 
 Stephen Jones, Half Hollow Hills, Sr. 
 Jones has made&nbsp;steady improvements over his last three years in varsity, culminating in a 23-3 record last season. . 
 Jack Lamberg, Commack, Sr. 
 Lamberg is one-half of a tremendously gifted Commack doubles pairing that has&nbsp;unmatched chemistry. He will likely look to compete in first doubles this season. 
 Nick Piombino, Commack, Sr. 
 Piombino is the other half of the Commack doubles duo that exudes confidence and displays sound communication on the court. This season will be Piombino and Lamberg’s fourth straight playing in tandem. 
 Lucas Samuel, Ward Melville, Sr. 
 Samuel advanced to the second round of the individual playoffs in&nbsp;first singles, going 11-7 last season. He meticulously reads his opponents’ every move. 
 Patrick Soulias, Walt Whitman, Sr. 
 Soulias had a 10-8 record last season, but finished fourth in singles in Suffolk. He has a strong power game, and his length gives him an advantage in court coverage. 
 Matt Volovar, Miller Place, Jr. 
 Volovar is coming off a very successful season in doubles, and will likely compete in doubles again this season. His strong attacking game makes it difficult for opponents to respond to his smashes.

Newsday's annual look at the top girls fencers in Long Island high schools heading into the winter season, listed in alphabetical order. 
<h3> Aurora Aschettino, Oyster Bay, foil, Sr. </h3> 
 The 2022 Newsday Fencer of the Year ended her spectacular season winning the Nassau foil championship. Aschettino had a 25-1 record last season. 
<h3> Abigail Hunt, Centereach, foil, Sr. </h3> 
 Hunt didn’t lose a match in the regular season, holding a 39-0 record in foil. She finished third in the county tournament. 
<h3> Esha Nayak, Syosset, sabre, Fr. </h3> 
 Nayak shined in sabre as an eighth grader last season, finishing with an overall record of 27-3 and winning the Brentwood Holiday championship. 
<h3> Ella Nguyen, Syosset,&nbsp;sabre, Sr. </h3> 
 Nguyen completes a powerful duo with Nayak at Syosset and in sabre. She finished 19-0 last year and will look to improve upon Syosset’s third place finish in the county championships. 
<h3> Kira Nguyen, Great Neck South, epee, Jr. </h3> 
 With an undefeated 32-0 record in epee last season, Nguyen helped Great Neck South win its fourth straight Nassau title. 
<h3> Anna Rohring, Commack,&nbsp;foil,&nbsp;Jr. </h3> 
 She was Suffolk’s top foil fencer last season, winning the individual county championship. She had a 30-3 record on the year. 
<h3> Mia Santana, Sayville, epee, Sr. </h3> 
 She was the top Suffolk fencer in epee last year, taking home the individual county crown. She finished her season with a 25-2 record as a junior. 
<h3> Stasya Selizhuk, Half Hollow Hills, epee, Jr. </h3> 
 Selizhuk finished 33-6 in epee as a sophomore. She will become captain this year, looking to build off her success. 
<h3> Haileigh Smith, Huntington, sabre, Sr. </h3> 
 She’s been a varsity starter on the sabre squad since freshman year and most recently finished with a 28-5 record as a junior. 
<h3> Jessica Xu, Great Neck North, epee, Sr. </h3> 
 Xu was a silver medalist at the county championships in&nbsp;epee as a junior. She earned a 22-3 record across the season.

 Patrick Broderick, Manhasset, Sr. &nbsp; 
 He finished third in the 500-yard freestyle (4:33.55) and 15th in the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.58) at last season's&nbsp;state Federation championships. 
 Colin Buscarino, Hauppauge, Jr. 
 Buscarino finished fourth in the 1-meter dive at the Suffolk championships last season. 
 Noah Cakir, St. Anthony’s, So. 
 Cakir placed second in the 200-yard individual medley&nbsp;(1:51.33) and fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke (57.02) at last season's&nbsp;state Federation championships. He won the 200-yard individual medley in 1:51.96 and the 100-yard backstroke in 56.66 at last season's&nbsp;CHSAA&nbsp; championships. 
 Allan Chu, Syosset, Jr. &nbsp; 
 Chu finished 12th in the 500-yard freestyle (4:40.75) and 11th in the 200-yard individual medley (1:56.39) at last season's&nbsp;state Federation championships. 
 Christopher Dandola, St. John the Baptist, Sr. &nbsp; 
 Dandola finished 19th in the 50-yard freestyle (23.70) and was in the top 25 for his 100-yard freestyle (54.33) at last season’s &nbsp;CHSAA championships. 
 Noah Guinta, Comsewogue, Sr. 
 He finished sixth in the 100-yard butterfly (50.68) and 13th in the 100-yard backstroke (51.98) at last season's&nbsp;state Federation championships. 
 John Holler, Smithtown, Sr. 
 Holler placed 15th in both the 100-yard breaststroke (59.57) and 200-yard individual medley&nbsp;(1:57.28) at last season's&nbsp;state Federation championships. 
 Brian Kern, Chaminade, Sr. 
 Kern had an impressive showing at the CHSAA championships last season, finishing sixth in the 100-yard backstroke (53.39) and eighth in the 200-yard individual medley&nbsp;(2:01.17). He also completed the 50-yard freestyle in 22.90. 
 David Kushnirsky, Hewlett, Soph. 
 He placed seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke (58.48) at last season's&nbsp;state Federation championships.

 Matthew McManus, St. Anthony’s, Sr. 
 He finished 16th in the 50-yard freestyle (21.84) and 21st in the 100-yard freestyle (47.80) at last season's&nbsp;state Federation championships. &nbsp; 
 Aaron Mendoza, St. Anthony’s, Jr. 
 Mendoza&nbsp;finished eighth in both the 100-yard butterfly (51.08) and 100-yard backstroke (51.39) at last season's&nbsp;state Federation championships. 
 Ethan Miao, Levittown-East Meadow, Sr. 
 &nbsp;At last season's Nassau championships, Miao finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (48.59) and 10th in the 50-yard freestyle (22.71). 
 Ryan Nu&ntilde;ez, Kellenberg, Sr. 
 He placed fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (50.50) and fifth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.12) at last season's&nbsp;state Federation championships. Nunez also won the 100-yard butterfly in 50.43 at the CHSAA&nbsp;championships.

 Vincent Vinciguerra, Ward Melville, Jr. 
 He placed 15th in the 100-yard freestyle (47.29) and 21st in the 50-yard freestyle (21.83) at &nbsp;last season's state Federation championships.&nbsp; 
 Tristan Weingarten, Connetquot-East Islip, Jr. 
 Weingarten finished 10th in the 100-yard freestyle (46.75) and 11th in the 50-yard freestyle (21.54) at last season's&nbsp;state Federation championships.

Olivia Brown, Half Hollow Hills/Kings Park, Jr. 
 She finished second in the state in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.42) and seventh in the 100 butterfly (56.74). 
 April Chun, East Meadow District, So. 
 Chun finished third in Nassau in the 500 freestyle (5:07.75) and was seventh in the 200 IM (2:14.59) last season. 
 Madison Connor, Garden City, Sr. 
 A Newsday all-Long Island selection last season, she won the Nassau championship in the 100 freestyle (52.06) and the 200 freestyle (1:52.89). She finished fourth in the 200 freestyle at the state tournament. 
 Riley Fried, Bellmore-Merrick, Sr. 
 She finished second in Nassau in the 100 butterfly (58.08) and third in the 200 individual medley (2:08.99) last season. 
 Sofia Giordano, Manhasset, Sr. 
 Giordano was the Nassau champion in the 500 freestyle (5:03.26), third in the 200 freestyle (1:56.28) and was a member of the Manhasset 200 and 400 freestyle county champion&nbsp;teams. She was also an all-Long Island selection in the spring of 2021.

 The Newsday girls swimmer of the year last fall, Gormsen’s 2021 season included two individual state titles (and two state records) in the 200 freestyle (1:45.93) and the 500 freestyle (4:40.73). She was also a key cog in Sacred Heart’s state champion 200 and 500 freestyle relay teams. 
 Abigail Han, Carle Place/Locust Valley, Jr. 
 Han was second in the 100 backstroke (58.19) and fourth in the 100 butterfly (58.65) at the Nassau championship last year and finished seventh in the backstroke at the state championship. 
 Emily Herr, Shoreham-Wading River, So. 
 A two-time all Long Island selection, Herr won the 100 freestyle (:51.96) and the 200 freestyle (1:52.33) at the Suffolk championship and she finished second in the state in the 200 IM (2:04.18) and fourth in the 100 butterfly (:55.93) 
 Tess Howley, Sacred Heart, Sr. 
 Howley was Sacred Heart’s other record breaking swimmer. She set the state record in the 100 backstroke (:52.06) at a state championship preliminary race and later won the event. She also set the state record while winning the 100 backstroke (:53.13) and won on Sacred Heart’s 200 and 500 freestyle relay state champion teams. 
 Megan Hu, Syosset, Jr. 
 She won the 100 breaststroke (1:06.82) and was a member of Syosset’s 200 IM county champion team last season. 
 Kaitlyn Liu, Great Neck South, Jr. 
 Liu finished fourth at the Nassau championship in the 200 IM (2:11.67) and fifth in the 100 butterfly (:59.03) last season. She qualified for the state championship in both events. 
 Mary McKenna, St. Anthony’s, Sr. 
 She was third in the 500 freestyle (4:53.67) and sixth in the 200 individual medley (2:06.32) at the Catholic state championship.

 Kate O’Brien, Babylon, Sr. 
 She finished fourth at the Suffolk championship in the 200 freestyle (1:56.60) and fifth in the 100 butterfly (58.82) last year. 
 Makenna O’Brien, Northport/Commack, Jr. 
 She was a member of Northport-Commack’s state winning 200 medley relay team (1:45.92), helped the team finish second in Suffolk in the 200 freestyle relay (1:41.22) and was fifth in Suffolk in the 200 individual medley (2:12.63). 
 Praise Okodogbe, St. John the Baptist, Sr. 
 She finished second in both the 50 freestyle and the 100 butterfly and was fifth in the 200 IM at the Catholic state championship last season. 
 Briana Racanello, Manhasset, &nbsp;Jr. 
 She was an all-Long Island selection in the spring of 2021 as a member of Manhasset’s county champion 400 freestyle relay team, won the 200 IM (2:06.55) and was on the winning 200 freestyle relay team. In the fall she was again on both winning relay teams and finished second in the 200 IM (2:08.58). 
 Olivia Schlegel, Port Jefferson, Sr. 
 Schlegel finished third at the Suffolk championship in the 200 IM (2:11.34) and the 100 backstroke (:59.10) last season.

 A Newsday swimmer to watch entering the season last fall, So has clocked the fifth fastest time in the 100 butterfly (1:00.33) and the 200 IM (2:16.28) through Sept.16 this season. 
 Leah Treglia, Hauppauge/Smithtown, Sr. 
 A two-time Newsday all-Long Island selection, she&nbsp;won the Suffolk championship in both the 100 yard backstroke and the 100 breaststroke the last two seasons and finished second at the state championships in both events last year. 
 Victoria Wang, Manhasset, Fr. 
 Wang set the Nassau record with a score of 562.55 in the 1-meter diving competition and went on to finish second at the state championship. 
 Rachel Yang, Jericho, Jr. 
 Yang was third in the state in the 1 meter diving event with a score of 490.20 and was second in Nassau behind Wang.

 She won the Suffolk title in the 50 freestyle (:24.08) and was second in the 100 freestyle (:52.44) and anchored Hills' 200 and 400 freestyle county champion relay teams. She finished top five in the state in both relays and the 100 freestyle.

<h3> Kyle Cheng –&nbsp;Syosset, senior, boys sabre </h3> 
 Cheng compiled a 20-1 record last season and earned Newsday All-Long Island honors. He was the silver medalist in the county championships. Cheng’s knowledge and speed on the piste helps him dominate his matchups. 
<h3> Anders Dalberg – Newfield, sophomore, foil </h3> 
 Dalberg went 20-1 last season. His precision when making his next attack is next level and he is always calculating his next steps. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; 
<h3> Ethan Gullo – Commack, senior, sabre </h3> 
 Gullo is a returning Newsday&nbsp;All-Long Island player who went 29-3 last season.&nbsp; His speed, accuracy, ability to strategize and carry out his plans methodically enabled him to rise to near the top of the field. 
<h3> Jalen Li –&nbsp;Syosset, senior, epee </h3> 
 Li (17-2 last season) is the defending Nassau individual epee championship. His size gives him the advantage in most matchups, but his patience allows for him to find the perfect opening to strike and come out victorious.

<h3> Charles Pedersen –&nbsp;Centereach, sophomore, foil </h3> 
 Pedersen's handwork and patience on the strip are his biggest strengths. Pederson, who attends Shoreham-Wading River High School,&nbsp;went 30-4 last season. 
<h3> Om Thakur –&nbsp;Herricks, sophomore, epee </h3> 
 Thakur went 27-2 last year en route to earning Newsday&nbsp;All-Long Island honors.&nbsp;This team captain is a strategic fencer who does a great job of analyzing his opponents to take appropriate risks. 
<h3> Mattias Weber – Whitman, junior, sabre </h3> 
 This Newsday All-Long Island fencer went 29-3 record last season. His agility and speed allow him to take over the strip and he rarely tires out during his matches, allowing him to deal efficient blows later in the match. 
<h3> Ryan Wong –&nbsp;Great Neck South, senior, sabre </h3> 
 Wong went 20-0 en route to winning the Nassau individual title in sabre. The&nbsp;Newsday All-Long Island fencer also won&nbsp;the Brentwood Holiday Tournament. Wong is a tactician on the court. He can find tendencies and opponents' openings on the fly. 
<h3> Lawrence Zeltser –&nbsp;Syosset, senior, foil </h3> 
 Zeltser went 21-1 last year and made Newsday's All-Long Island team. He was the bronze medalist in the Nassau championships last year. His knowledge allows him to always stay a step ahead of his opponent. His size allows him to at times overpower opponents and instantly gain an advantage.

 Josiah Brown, Holy Trinity, Jr.:&nbsp;He’s the top returner from the state 55, where he ran a 6.38 and placed third in March. Brown is the defending CHSAA Intersectional champion in the same event.&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Alex Colletti, Garden City, Sr.:&nbsp;He’s the top 600 runner in Nassau after running&nbsp; 1:24.69 at the state qualifier last season. 
 Angelo Confort, Riverhead, Sr.:&nbsp;Confort is the top returner from the 55-hurdles at last season’s Suffolk state qualifier, where he posted a 7.92. 
 GianCarlo DiFava, Commack, Sr.:&nbsp;He’s the second-fastest returner in Suffolk in the 600 after running a 1:24.90 at last season’s state qualifier.&nbsp; 
 Paul Fiorvante, Connetquot, Sr.:&nbsp; Fiorvante is the defending Suffolk League II high jump champion after he cleared five feet, eight inches in January. 
 Jahmar Francis, Huntington, Jr.:&nbsp;The top returner in Suffolk in the 600. He ran 1:24.90 at the state qualifiers last season. 
 Sameer Grewal, East Meadow, Sr.:&nbsp;He was third in the 600 at the Nassau state qualifier in 1:26.26 and is the defending Nassau Conference II champion in the same event.

 Parker Kim, Syosset, Sr.:&nbsp;Kim is the top returner in the state in the weight throw. He threw 60 feet, 6 1/4&nbsp;inches at the state championship last March.&nbsp; 
 Kimani Lewis, Elmont, Sr.:&nbsp;Lewis is the defending Nassau Class B champion in the 55 (6.69) and is the top returner from the Class B 300 after running a 36.71 last February. 
 Matt Lourenco, St. Anthony’s, Sr.:&nbsp;He’s the defending Nassau-Suffolk CHSAA pole vault league champion after clearing 12 feet, six inches in January. He’s the brother of Nicholas Lourenco, who won both the state indoor and outdoor pole vault titles&nbsp;last season and now competes at High Point University in North Carolina. 
 Kenyon Miles, St. Anthony’s, Sr.:&nbsp;Miles won the long jump at the Long Island Elite Meet, flying 22 feet, 1 3/4&nbsp;inches and is the defending CHSAA Intersectional champion in the same event, where he cleared 21-6.&nbsp; 
 Kyle Mullen, Farmingdale, Sr.:&nbsp;Mullen is the top Nassau returner in the shot put, where he threw 45-9 3/4&nbsp;at last season’s state qualifier 
 Patrick Mulryan, Chaminade, Sr.:&nbsp;Mulryan is the defending Nassau-Suffolk CHSAA league champion in the 1,000 after running a 2:39.65 last January. 
 Eamon Murray, West Babylon, Sr.:&nbsp;The top weight thrower in Suffolk. He tossed 49 feet at the Suffolk state qualifier last season. 
 Joseph Norrby, East Islip, So.:&nbsp;He’s cleared six feet to win the high jump at last season’s Suffolk state qualifier.&nbsp; 
 Christian Oliva, St. Anthony’s, Sr.:&nbsp;He’s the top returner from the CHSAA Intersectional Championship weight throw, where he finished second with a 46 foot, 9 1/2&nbsp;inch mark. 
 Paul Park, Manhasset, Sr.:Park is the top returner in Nassau in both the long jump and triple jump. He jumped 21 feet, 9 3/4&nbsp;inches in the long jump at the state championships, good for third place. He’s the second-best returner from that event.

 Kazeem Scott, Freeport, Sr.:&nbsp;Scott ran 6.64 to win the 55 at the Nassau state qualifier last February and is the defending Nassau Class A champion in the 55 and the long jump (20-10 1/4). 
 Sergio Talamo, Massapequa, Sr.:&nbsp;Talamo was the top pole vaulter in Nassau last season after clearing 11 feet, six inches at the state qualifier in February. 
 Jack Ward, St. Anthony’s, Sr.:&nbsp;Ward is the defending Nassau-Suffolk CHSAA league champion in the 600 (1:23.82) and finished second at the CHSAA Intersectional championship in the same event (1:22.54).

Our annual look at the top boys badminton players in Nassau as the fall 2022 seasons unfolds. Players are listed in alphabetical order. 
 Justin Choi, Great Neck South, Senior 
 Choi was second singles as a ninth-, 10th- and 11th-grader. Last year, he had an 8-2 record powered behind his incredible court awareness and footwork. He is slated to play first singles this season. 
 Christopher Kim, Jericho, Senior 
 Kim is a fourth-year player with a competitive backdrop and has battled his way from an alternate position as a freshman to third or possibly&nbsp;second singles as a senior. Kim was 11-0 last season at third doubles and helped Jericho win the first Long Island championship last spring&nbsp;against&nbsp;Half Hollow Hills. 
 Allen Qian, Manhasset, Senior 
 He boasted a record of 12-0 in third doubles last season. He has a strong ability to clear and his sensitivity on certain shots is&nbsp;second to none. &nbsp; 
 Speed Shu, Manhasset,&nbsp;Senior 
 Shu's name matches his lightning-quick reflexes and agility. He knows how to use his power smash when needed. Shu was fourth doubles with&nbsp;an 11-1 record last year.

 He was the singles runner-up at the Nassau individual tournament last season. Thu was 11-1 and was the only player to beat Ryan Wu, who has won the county title the past three seasons. Thu has excellent footwork that allows him to cover the whole court. He makes the right shots at the right times. 
 Chris Tong,&nbsp;Manhasset,&nbsp;Senior 
 Tong posted a 12-0 record in second singles last year. He is slated to play first singles this season. He will be one of the captains of his team due to his excellent leadership skills and ability to communicate with his teammates. 
 Will Tsay, Manhasset, Junior 
 Tsay went 12-0 in third singles last year. He is slated to play second singles this season. Tsay has great all-around technique. 
 Randy Wickramasinghe, Calhoun, Senior 
 He was first singles last year and went 10-2.&nbsp;Wickramasinghe is slated to play first singles this season. He's a very smart player who adjusts well to whomever he is facing. 
 Tristen Wong,&nbsp;Syosset, Senior 
 Wong went 8-4 at second singles last year. He is slated to play first singles this season. His ability to hit drop shots, clears and drives go together with his ability to hit sharp-angled smash shots.

 He had a 3.66 handicap and was ranked eighth in Nassau County as a sophomore. 
 Zach Berger, Westhampton, Fr. 
 Berger tied for 17th at the Suffolk County championship with a 162 as an eighth-grader. 
 Brian Berkery, Garden City, Sr. 
 Berkery had a 6.32 handicap and led Garden City to a Nassau Conference V title as a junior. 
 Liam Blackmore, Southampton, Jr. 
 He tied for 11th place at last year’s Suffolk&nbsp;individual tournament with a 161 total score. 
 Jack Breutsch, Center Moriches, Sr. 
 Breutsch tied for third in last year’s Suffolk individual tournament with a 153 two-day score. He tied for 20th at the state public school tournament with a 152 and made four birdies and an eagle in his 4-over 76 second round. 
 Spencer Cohen, Roslyn, Fr. 
 Cohen averaged a 36 per nine holes with a 4.75 handicap as an eighth-grader.

 Walter had a 3.56 handicap and led Cold Spring Harbor to a Nassau Conference VI title as a sophomore.

Top 25 boys golfers for the fall season

Newsday's annual look at the top 25 girls indoor track and field athletes in Long Island high schools this winter, listed in alphabetical order. 
 Breanne Barnett, Baldwin, Fr.:&nbsp; Barnett is the defending Nassau Class A 55 champion after running a 7.50 as an eighth-grader last February. 
 Ashley Carillo, Port Washington, So.:&nbsp;Carillo won the 1,000 in 3:06.92 at the Nassau state qualifier in February. She took second in the 1,000 (3:19.45), 1,500 (5:22.29), and 3,000 (11:02.52) at the Nassau Class A championships. 
 Maria Chiariello, St. Anthony’s, Sr.:&nbsp;She’s the defending CHSAA intersectional weight throw champion, where she threw 41 feet, 1 &frac12; inches in February, and the defending Nassau-Suffolk CHSAA shot put champion after throwing it 34 feet, 2&nbsp;inches in January. 
 Camryn Daley, St. Anthony’s, So.: Daley is the top returner from the 55 at the CHSAA intersectional championships, where she posted a 7.37. 
 Tori Daniels, Valley Stream South, Sr.:&nbsp;Daniels placed third in the 300 in 40.66 seconds at the state championships. She won the Nassau Class C 300 championship in 40.47 seconds. 
 Sariah Doresca, Baldwin, So.:&nbsp;Doresca finished second in the 55 in 7.48 seconds at the Nassau state qualifier&nbsp; and placed 11th in the trials of the same event at the state championships in 7.41. 
 Clariss Duhaney, Hewlett, Sr.:&nbsp;She’s the top Long Island returner from the state championship high jump, where she cleared 5 feet, 2inches in March. Duhaney is the defending Nassau Class B high jump champion.&nbsp;

 Laina Friedmann, Smithtown West, Jr.: She ran second in the 600 in 1:38.82 at the Long Island Elite Meet. Friedmann is the top returner from the 1,000 at the Suffolk Large School championships after running a 3:03.26. 
 Ashley Fulton, Elmont, Jr.:&nbsp;She ran anchor on the state championship 4X200 relay team that won in 1:42.81. In the spring, Fulton took home state titles in the Division I 100 (12.14), Division I 200 (24.23), and the Federation 200 (24.68). 
 Victoria Guerrier, West Hempstead, Sr.: She won the 600 at the Nassau state qualifier in 1:36.66. Guerrier is the defending Nassau Class C champion (1:37.85) and was sixth at the state championships (1:35.95) in the same event. 
 Rory Heslin, Garden City, Sr.:&nbsp; Heslin is the defending Nassau Class B 600 champion after running 1:45.73 in February. She was ninth in the same event at the state championships in 1:37 flat. She’s committed to play field hockey at Wake Forest.&nbsp; 
 Megan Hoffmann, Sachem East, Sr.:&nbsp;She placed an All-American fourth in the one mile race walk in 7:53.15 at New Balance Indoor Nationals in March and is the defending Suffolk Large School champion in the 1,500 race walk (7:30.5).&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Emily LaMena, Glenn, Sr.:&nbsp;LaMena is the defending Suffolk Small School 3,000 champion after running 10:25.87 last February.&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Isabella Lucas, Port Washington, So.:&nbsp;She’s the defending Nassau Class AAA triple jump champion after flying 33 feet, 3 &frac34; inches last season. 
 Lauren Lynch, St. Anthony’s Sr.:&nbsp;She cleared 10 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault&nbsp;to place second at the CHSAA intersectional championships and is the top returner from that event.

 Sara Manson, Calhoun, Sr.:&nbsp;Manson is the defending Nassau Class B 55 hurdles champion after clocking a 9.04 last February. 
 Yashima Mitchell, Uniondale, Sr.:&nbsp;She cleared 5&nbsp;feet to win the high jump at the Nassau state qualifier in February. 
 Anissa Moore, Hempstead, Sr.:&nbsp;The Vanderbilt commit transferred from Paul Robeson in Brooklyn, where she won the 600 at the PSAL city championships in 1:34.57.&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Lizzie Schreiber, Whitman, Sr.:&nbsp;She’s the top returner from the state triple jump championship after flying 38 feet, 5 inches last March. Schreiber is the defending Suffolk Large School triple jump champion 
 Julie Thomas, Commack, Sr.:&nbsp;The defending shot put state champion. She tossed it 40 feet, 10 &frac12; inches in March. 
 Dakota Wang, Half Hollow Hills West, Sr.:&nbsp;She’s the top returner in the high jump from the Suffolk state qualifier, where she cleared 5-2. 
 Farrah Wengler, West Babylon, Sr.:&nbsp;Wengler was third in the 1,500 race walk at the state championships in 7:22.89 and won the Suffolk Small School race walk championship in 7:56.63. 
 Mia Wickard, Northport, Eighth Grade:&nbsp;She’s the defending Suffolk Large School 3,000 champion after running 10:21.99 in February. She was eighth in the same event in 10:04.5 at the state championships.

 Arcangel is the reigning Newsday Girls Bowler of the Year after holding the top average (220.17) &nbsp;on Long Island. &nbsp;

 Bloch maintained a 217.03 average a season ago, good for the third highest rank on Long Island. Her 716 high series was tied for fifth in Suffolk. &nbsp;

<h3> Ava Caruso, Seaford, So. </h3> 
 She rolled a 928 series to help Seaford win the Nassau Division II title a season ago. Caruso holds a 175.90&nbsp;average so far this season. &nbsp; 
<h3> Dakota Collins, East Islip, So. </h3> 
 Collins’ 207.07 average ranked sixth in Suffolk last season. She rolled a 259 for the Suffolk all-star team in game 3 at the state championship. 
<h3> Olivia Colon, St. Dominic, Jr. </h3> 
 Colon bowled a 182 in game 3 against St. John the Baptist in the CHSAA semifinals a season ago. &nbsp; 
<h3> Erica DeJesus, Division, Sr. </h3> 
 The Division captain ranks fifth&nbsp;in Nassau so far this season with a&nbsp;179&nbsp;average, and her 647 high series ranks third. &nbsp; 
<h3> Trishna Desai, Smithtown, Eighth Grade </h3> 
 With a 190.26&nbsp;average so far this season, Desai has improved by 25&nbsp;pins from a year ago.

 Dolan anchors a Kellenberg team seeking its sixth CHSAA title in the last seven seasons.

 Morris, the defending Nassau individual champion,&nbsp;currently holds the top average in Nassau at&nbsp;212.05. &nbsp;

 Reder currently holds a 175.60&nbsp;average and will look to help Seaford repeat as Nassau Division II champions. 
<h3> Kiyoshi Schembri, Middle Country, Jr. </h3> 
 Schembri’s 185.88 average ranks 11th in Suffolk. So far this season, she has raised her average by 60 pins from a season ago. 
<h3> Samantha Slocum, Longwood, Sr. </h3> 
 Slocum rolled a 268 in game 6 of the Suffolk team championship and holds a 179 average this season. 
<h3> Leighanna Tolan, Central Islip, Jr. </h3> 
 Tolan’s 219.31 average was the second highest on Long Island. Her 270 high game ranked seventh in Suffolk. 
<h3> Brianna Tringali, Commack, Sr. </h3> 
 Tringali had a 191.75 average, a 258 high game and a 664 high series a season ago. 
<h3> Kyra Walter, West Babylon, Jr. </h3> 
 Walter finished last season with a 194.58 average and a high game of 290. 
<h3> Morgan Winchell, Sewanhaka, Fr. </h3> 
 Winchell’s 189.89 average ranks second in Nassau. She has had a 242 high game and a 663 high series. 
<h3> Emily Wong, Herricks, Sr. </h3> 
 Wong’s 246 high game currently ranks second in Nassau. She holds a 179.81 average this season, fourth best in Nassau.

 He was second for the Lions in kills with 117. 
 Tommy Bello, Calhoun, MB, Sr. 
 He recorded 209 kills and 69 blocks to help lead the Colts to an appearance in last season’s Nassau Division II final.

 He will be the centerpiece on offense for Syosset after picking up 103 kills and 30 aces.

 She placed third in Class B at the Nassau state qualifier, running 20:01.38 at Bethpage State Park.

Our annual&nbsp;look at the top girls volleyball players across Long Island high schools as the fall 2022 season gets underway, in alphabetical order: 
 Nicole Antos, Bellport, MH, Sr. &nbsp; 
 After 109 kills and 57 blocks a season ago, she is off to a quick start this season with 23 kills and 15 blocks through three games.&nbsp; 
 Erica Arroyo, Smithtown West, OH, Sr.&nbsp; 
 Arroyo&nbsp;had 197 kills a season ago and hit .471 in the Suffolk Class AA final. She will be the primary attacker for the Bulls this season. &nbsp; 
 Alexa Ayotte, Port Jefferson, S, Sr.&nbsp; 
 Ayotte is very adept at spreading the ball around. She had 281 assists last season&nbsp;and has 71 through three matches&nbsp;this season. &nbsp; 
 Cassidy Barbieri, Sachem East, OH, Sr.&nbsp; 
 A heavy hitter with smart ball placement, Barbieri brings tremendous power as a focal point of Sachem East attack. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Kiera Birk, South Side, S, Jr. &nbsp; 
 A strong all-around player, she had 105 kills, 220 digs&nbsp;and 354 assists last season.&nbsp; 
 Carey-Jean Block, Seaford, OH, Soph.&nbsp; 
 She had 103 kills, 149 digs&nbsp;and 25 aces in her standout freshman season. 
 Emma Bradshaw, Ward Melville, MB, Soph.&nbsp; 
 A varsity starter since eighth grade, the 6-2 Bradshaw&nbsp;led the Patriots in blocks and aces last season.&nbsp; 
 Stella Brittingham, Manhasset, S, Sr.&nbsp; 
 This&nbsp;speedy court leader had 293 assists and 37 aces as a junior. &nbsp; 
 Rebecca Costanza, Glenn, OH, Sr. &nbsp; 
 Costanza already has 29 kills and 46 digs through two matches&nbsp;this season as she steps&nbsp;into more of a primary role. 
 Emma Cawley, Smithtown East, MH, Sr.&nbsp; 
 She started this season with 16 kills in a match against Ward Melville. She was second on the team in kills and blocks last season.&nbsp; 
 Lily Coan, Sayville, S, Jr.&nbsp; 
 Coan averaged 26 assists and six digs a season ago as Sayville finished runner-up in the Suffolk County championship. &nbsp; 
 Alexa Colondona, Connetquot, S, Sr.&nbsp; 
 Colondona&nbsp;recorded 431 assists and 111 digs last season. She is expected to make an even greater impact this season.&nbsp; 
 Victoria Condoulis, Mepham, Libero, Sr.&nbsp; 
 She had 275 digs a season ago, good for seventh on Long Island. She also had 45 aces. &nbsp; 
 Mikalah Curran, Commack, OH, Sr.&nbsp; 
 An all-around leader for the Cougars, she led the team with 14 kills and six digs per match last year. 
 Sophia DeBonis, Bay Shore, S, Sr.&nbsp; 
 This returning Newsday All-Long Island first-teamer had 402 assists, 169 digs and 104 kills.&nbsp; 
 Peyton Elward, Harborfields, MH, Soph.&nbsp; 
 Elward had 152 kills and 47 blocks last season, earning League IV rookie of the year. 
 Jessica Forneiro, Kings Park, OH, Sr.&nbsp; 
 Forneiro had 15 kills in the Suffolk Class A title match&nbsp;last season. She will be a big factor in Kings Park’s quest for a 12th consecutive county championship. &nbsp; 
 Sage Foster, Mattituck, OH, Jr.&nbsp; 
 The driving force of the Tuckers’ attack averaged 12 kills per match last season. &nbsp; 
 Cassandra Genduso, OH, Kings Park, Sr.&nbsp; 
 The Newsday All-Long Island second-team selection helped Kings Park win its 11th consecutive Suffolk championship last season.&nbsp; 
 Mackenzie Heaney, Ward Melville, S, Sr.&nbsp; 
 A captain and three-year varsity starter, Heaney led the Patriots in assists, averaging eight per set last season.

 Hromada had 372 assists, 84 digs&nbsp;and 27 aces in a strong sophomore season. &nbsp;

 She averaged eight kills per match and led the Cougars with four aces per match last season.

Newsday's annual look at the top boys bowlers across Long Island's high schools this winter, listed in alphabetical order. (This season's statistics are through Dec. 18.) 
<h3> Jack Baranek, East Islip, Sr. </h3> 
 Baranek currently leads Suffolk with 18 match points. He has a 218 average, a high game of 268 and a high series of 697 through 18 games. 
<h3> Anthony Bocchino, Commack, So. </h3> 
 Bocchino has a 218 average through 11 games. He has a high game of 248 and a high series of 673. 
<h3> Christopher D'Amelia, West Babylon, Sr. </h3> 
 He has a 212 average through 21 games this season. D’Amelia has a high game of 267 and a high series of 711. 
<h3> Jermaine Daniels, Bay Shore, Sr. </h3> 
 The senior ranks third in Suffolk with a 228 average through 12 games with a high game of 277 and a high series of 725. 
<h3> Richard Deem, Kellenberg, Jr. </h3> 
 He took third place at the CHSAA individual championship last year with a 245 in Game 2 of a 644 series. 
<h3> Joseph Dolezal, Wheatley, Jr. </h3> 
 The junior currently ranks second in Nassau with a 214 average. He has a high game of 248 and a high series of 694 through 18 games. 
<h3> Jason Donovan, Seaford, Sr. </h3> 
 Donovan rolled a 258 in Game 1 of a six-game 1,361 series to lead Seaford to the Nassau Division II title last season. He owns a 208 average through 21 games this season with a high game of 247 and a series high of 686.

<h3> Alexander Greaves, Half Hollow Hills, So. </h3> 
 Greaves has a 227 average through 15 games this season. He bowled a 297 in Game 1 of a 746 series in the season opener against West Babylon on Nov. 22. 
<h3> Matthew Grimaldi, Sachem, Sr. </h3> 
 A returning Newsday All-Long Island selection, Grimaldi led Sachem to a second-place finish at the county championship. He currently leads Suffolk with a 235 average through 18 games and has a high game of 299 and four series of 700 or better. 
<h3> Billy Grotheer, Mineola, Sr. </h3> 
 Grotheer averaged a 209 and placed fourth in the Nassau individual championships with a 1,293 as a junior. He has a 204 average and a high series of 754 through 21 games this season. 
<h3> Jeremy Holcomb, Smithtown, So. </h3> 
 After helping Smithtown to a Suffolk title last year, Holcomb has a 211 average through 18 games. He rolled a 287 in Game 3 of a 704 series against Hauppauge on Dec. 1. 
<h3> Aidan Kolbe, Northport, Sr. </h3> 
 Kolbe rolled a 300 in Game 2 of a 743 series against East Islip on Nov. 30. He has a 216 average through 20 games. 
<h3> Daniel Kwak, Jericho, Sr. </h3> 
 Kwak has a game high of 264 and a series high of 679 through the first 15 games of his senior season. 
<h3> Jake Lau, Herricks, So. </h3> 
 Lau owns a 210 average in 21 games, including a 247 in Game 2 of a 691 series against Great Neck South on Dec. 1. 
<h3> Nicholas Lesica, Island Trees, So. </h3> 
 Lesica rolled a 289 in Game 1 of a 721 series against Division on Nov. 30. 
<h3> Memphis Ling, Kellenberg, Sr. </h3> 
 Ling rolled a 279 in Game 1 of a 662 series to capture the CHSAA individual title last season. He’s averaging a 214 to start this season. 
<h3> Jayden Lobasso, Bay Shore, Jr. </h3> 
 He rolled a 268 in Game 3 of a 698 series against Bayport-Blue Point on Dec. 1. Lobasso has a 226 average through 12 games. 
<h3> Brenden Muller, East Islip, Fr. </h3> 
 Muller has a 216 average through 18 games of his freshman season, with&nbsp;a high game of 259 and a high series of 720. 
<h3> Brandon Nanoo, Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK, Jr. </h3> 
 Nanoo currently leads Nassau with a 226 average through 18 games. He rolled a 299 in Game 2 of a 737 series against Massapequa on Dec. 8.

 He ranks eighth in Suffolk with a 218 average through 18 games. Petrillo has a high game of 278 and a high series of 726. 
<h3> Dominick Rossi, St. Anthony’s, Sr. </h3> 
 Rossi took second place at the CHSAA individual championships last season with a 647 series and helped St. Anthony’s to a team title.

 Sundberg bowled a 300 at the state championship to earn Newsday All-Long Island honors as an eighth-grader. He has a 228 average through 18 games with a high game of 279 and a high series of 725 this season.

 Jordan Altman, Syosset, Sr. 
 The top returner in Nassau was third in Class A at the county's state qualifier at Bethpage State Park. Altman ran 17:07.2 at the public school state championships at Chenango Valley State Park. 
 Douglas Antaky, Smithtown, Jr. 
 He ran 17:17.97 at the Suffolk state qualifier&nbsp;at Sunken Meadow State Park and was&nbsp;eighth in Class A. 
 Aidan Brancaccio, St. Anthony’s, Sr. 
 He placed second in 13:35.46 at the Nassau-Suffolk CHSAA league championships at Sunken Meadow’s 2.5-mile course. 
 Brandon Cruz, Northport, Jr. 
 He had the fifth-fastest time (17:39.40) at the Suffolk division championships at Sunken Meadow. 
 Sean Dearie, St. Anthony’s, Sr. 
 Dearie ran 17:05.13 at the Ocean State Invitational in Rhode Island and 13:59.80 at the 2.5-mile CHSAA Intersectional Championships at Van Cortlandt Park.

 Gogarty is the second-fastest returner in Suffolk’s Class A. He ran 17:17.36 at the Suffolk state qualifier&nbsp;at Sunken Meado and was third in 16:51.12 at the Tom Knipfing Invitational&nbsp;at Fireman’s Field. 
 Trevor Hayes, Westhampton, Jr. 
 Hayes ran 16:46.33 at the Suffolk state qualifier&nbsp;at Sunken Meadow.&nbsp;His 16:49.3 at the state public school championships at Chenango Valley was 15th in Class B at Chenango Valley. 
 Max Haynia, Westhampton, Sr. 
 He’s the fastest Class B returner in the state after placing seventh in 16:26.9 at the public school championships&nbsp;at Chenango Valley. Haynia was second in Class B at both the Suffolk division championships and state qualifier&nbsp;at Sunken Meadow. 
 Jack Higgins, Chaminade, Sr. 
 Higgins ran 13:54.7 and placed 20th on the 2.5-mile course at Van Cortlandt Park at the CHSAA Intersectional Championships. 
 William Hughes, Calhoun, Sr. 
 Hughes finished fifth in Class II in 17:11.19 at the Nassau class conference championships at Bethpage.

 James McNaughton, Northport, Sr. 
 His 17:31.9 at the public school state championships at Chenango Valley was&nbsp;among the 10 fastest times by a Long Island underclassman. 
 Patrick Mulryan, Chaminade, Sr. 
 He&nbsp;ran 14:03.11 at Sunken Meadow’s 2.5-mile course and finished seventh at the Nassau-Suffolk CHSAA league championships. 
 Myles Munro, Seaford, Soph. 
 Munro placed third in Class III in 17:44.40 at the Nassau class county championships at Bethpage. 
 Anthony O’Brien, Ward Melville, Sr. 
 O’Brien ran 17:35.1 to place 16th at the Suffolk state qualifier&nbsp;at Sunken Meadow. 
 John Ortiz, Carey, Sr. 
 Oritz&nbsp;ran 17:04.3 to finished 15th at the Nassau state qualifier&nbsp;at Bethpage. 
 Jeremy Paredes, St. Anthony’s, Sr. 
 He’s the top returner from the CHSAA Intersectional Championships, where he ran 13:34.6 and placed fifth on the 2.5-mile course at Van Cortlandt Park.

 He’s the fastest returner in Suffolk’s Class A. Sheahan was sixth at the Suffolk state qualifier&nbsp;in 17:06.29 at Sunken Meadow.
